The name Rowan was inspired by the beautiful shrubs that line the banks of the river Holme in Yorkshire, which is deeply tied to textile heritage and tradition. Founded in 1978, we initially started life above a grocery store near Huddersfield, specializing in kits. Our founders, Stephen Sheard and Simon Cockin, wanted to produce knitting yarns that were both high quality and perfect for the design trends of the time. Today, we draw inspiration from notable designers such as Kaffe Fassett, Martin Storey, Brandon Mably, Sarah Hatton and Lisa Richardson to create our seasonal pattern collections. Our ultimate aim is to provide high quality yarns that are a pleasure to knit and wear. Rowan designs represent a wide range, from heritage and timeless pieces with an emphasis on the best fibers available, to modern and on-trend reflective knitwear.
